The current understanding of language as a means of social interaction and a tool for knowledge acquisition highlights the importance that language studies have nowadays. Given the significance of language, on the basis of the research areas at the School of Languages and, in tandem with the graduate programs offered, the Ph.D. Degree in Language Sciences was designed with the objective of training highly-qualified researchers who understand the social role of language and are committed to the advancement of linguistic knowledge.

The Ph.D. Degree is mainly oriented towards training autonomous researchers. Consequently, the program starts with a dissertation research project designed by the student and endorsed by an advisor with the highest degree. The advisor will determine the focus of the candidate’s research and the selection of courses that the student is to take during the program.
