La Maestría en Lengua Inglesa invita a la conferencia online:  "A social and linguistic case for introducing variations inside language classrooms".

Viernes 24 de junio a las 15.30 h

Disertante: Dr. Alex Ho-Cheong Leung, Northumbria University (UK)

Inscripción: a través del formulario online.

Sobre la conferencia

In this talk, I will unpack and problematise the notion of “standard” through drawing on evidence from English historical linguistics and facts about variations in native-English-speaking contexts. I will also explore the social ramifications of dialectal variations and provide research-based linguistic evidence pertaining to second language speech training to advocate for the introduction of variation inside language learning classrooms. I argue that exposing learners to variations will better prepare them for global communications where they are likely to interact with speakers who may not share their linguistic background. Exposure to linguistic varieties in education may also have the potential to contribute to a society that is more just and accepting of variations.
